Areté Float + Wellness
213 E Braxton Foushee St, Carrboro, NC
Areté Float + Wellness opened in downtown Carrboro in February 2018 as the Triangle's first float studio, and has grown into a small, quiet wellness house at the corner of Maple Avenue and East Braxton Foushee Street, about a mile from UNC. Next to its float tanks (1,000 pounds of Epsom salt in ten inches of water) it runs private full-spectrum infrared saunas at 140-155°F and a cold plunge held around 51°F for contrast therapy, plus red light, halotherapy and massage. A 30-minute infrared sauna session is $30, and a 60-minute contrast session (about three rounds of 15 minutes of heat and 2-3 minutes of cold) is $50 for a first visit, $60 after that, or $90 for two people. A guest can join a sauna session for $15, and halotherapy is a $10 add-on. Sauna memberships run from $149 (six sessions) to $275 a month unlimited. Orientation and changing time don't eat into your booked minutes. Cancel at least 24 hours out to avoid a $25 fee. Phones stay silent and voices low, and the studio asks you not to bring companions who aren't booked. The team suggests booking contrast on a different day from a float or massage, because the cold leaves most people buzzing while the other services wind you down. It is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed Mondays, with two small lots for parking and dinner in downtown Carrboro steps away.
