Backyard by Framework
928 McFerrin Ave, Nashville, TN
Backyard by Framework is a fully outdoor sauna and cold plunge studio set in roughly 3,000 square feet of tree-lined yard behind a remodeled 1920s house in East Nashville's Greenwood neighborhood, opened by Framework founder Allen Penn in September 2025 as the smaller, looser sibling of the Wedgewood-Houston flagship. There is one custom traditional sauna held at 190°F that fits a dozen people, four cold tubs for solo or two-person plunges set between 40°F and 60°F, outdoor rinse showers and lounge seating under the trees, while the century-old house holds the changing rooms, restrooms, lockers and a counter selling drinks and healthy snacks. It is the most affordable way into the Framework system: single sessions are $29 on weekdays and $39 on weekends with towels and hydration included, new guests can buy five sessions for $79 to use at either location within ten days, and Backyard-only memberships run $89 for four sessions, $149 for eight and $199 for unlimited (flagship memberships also work here, but not the reverse). Book a slot online, bring a swimsuit, leave the phone in a locker, and plan on the house rhythm of long sauna rounds broken by short plunges. Wednesday is the closed day, the lot out front is free, and the whole yard can be hired for private groups. Because it is all outside, the experience changes with the weather, which regulars count as the point: a 190°F box and a 40°F tub feel different in a January drizzle than on a July evening. Weekly yoga and fitness classes and DJ sessions fill the yard on weekends, and reviewers describe the staff and the setting as the best part.
