Bathhouse Philadelphia
1418 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA
Bathhouse Philadelphia is the New York social bathhouse brand's first location outside the five boroughs, a roughly 36,000-square-foot thermal complex that opened on September 25, 2026 in the exposed-brick lower level of The Bellevue at Broad and Walnut. You enter on Walnut Street through the old Tiffany & Co. storefront and head down into a moody, low-lit circuit that pulls from Russian, Turkish and German bathing traditions: a gas-fired banya at 185-195°F, a large dry 'event sauna' up to about 185°F, a 135°F infrared room, a steam room, and three pools set hot (104°F), neutral (high 90s) and cold (around 45-50°F). This is contrast therapy built for a crowd rather than a pampering spa. Day passes start at $29 on off-peak weekdays and float with demand, so prime evening and weekend slots can run closer to $70; book ahead at the Bathhouse site, since guest numbers are metered. Bring a swimsuit, plan on a waiver, and leave your phone in the locker, because devices are not allowed in the amenity spaces. Several times a day a Sauna Master runs a free 15-minute Aufguss in the event sauna, pouring scented water on the stones and whipping the steam around with a towel to music and shifting lights. First-timers should start with about 15 minutes in the infrared room and drink plenty of water; the top bench of the banya is the hottest spot in the building. Massages (from $164) include full access to the circuit. The brand still does things its own way: since its 2019 Williamsburg debut it has run small on-site Bitcoin-mining rigs and piped their waste heat into the pools and heated seats. Weekday middays are calm; weekend nights skew younger and louder. A rooftop pool, sauna and bar on the 7,000-square-foot terrace overlooking Walnut Street is planned for 2027.
