Life Time Raleigh is the North Raleigh athletic country club on Falls of Neuse Road, and its recovery side is one of the most complete in the Triangle. Members get a cedarwood dry sauna and a eucalyptus steam room off the pool area, a second sauna and steam room in each locker room, three whirlpools (indoor, on the outdoor pool deck and in the locker rooms) and a cold plunge set up for hot-cold contrast rounds. Access comes with membership, which starts around $219 a month for an adult, month to month with 30 days' notice to cancel; family members can be added. The club opens at 4 a.m. and runs to midnight on weekdays, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends, so the sauna is there before or after a workout, a swim or a class. Guests can visit 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a member or on a trial pass arranged with the club. Towels, toiletries and swimsuit dryers are in the locker rooms, and LifeSpa, LifeCafe and a poolside bistro are on site. The outdoor whirlpool is for members 16 and older, with 12-15-year-olds supervised by an adult. It suits people who want heat and cold as part of a training routine rather than a standalone spa trip: lift, swim, then cycle through cedar sauna, plunge and steam without booking anything.
