PLUNJ Salt Lake
51 W Utopia Ave, South Salt Lake, UT
PLUNJ Salt Lake is a Nordic-style contrast therapy bathhouse on Utopia Avenue in South Salt Lake, set at the base of the Bowers Residences. It has two studios. Each one has a communal dry sauna kept around 194°F over a big bed of sauna rocks, a cold pool held near 50°F, Scandinavian bucket showers and a lounge for resting between rounds. The routine is simple: hot, cold, rest, repeat. General admission is a 60-minute session, usually capped at 8 to 10 people, and you book and pay online ahead of time. Swimwear is required. Nobody runs a guided program, so you move between the sauna, the cold pool and the lounge at your own pace. A host stops by every few minutes to pour water on the rocks and bring tea and electrolyte water. A single session runs about $38. Credit-based memberships start at $99 a month, unlimited is $225, and punch passes are also sold. Groups can book a whole studio for an hour or two. PLUNJ started with Sean and Lauren Foster taking cold plunges in a cattle trough in their backyard. It was one of the first Nordic-style bathhouses in Utah and has since grown into locations across the state and beyond. Towels, toiletries, lockers and free covered parking are included, so first-timers only need to bring a swimsuit.
