Purify Patterson is the original Purify, a small infrared sauna studio in a Patterson Avenue strip near Westhampton that opened in 2015 and is often credited as Richmond's first dedicated sauna space. The studio is built around private suites rather than a shared room: each one holds an infrared sauna that runs around 120-140°F, lower and gentler than a Finnish sauna, with color-changing chromotherapy lights and medical-grade red light panels now included in every session. Red light is also sold on its own as a standalone service. Sessions are 40 minutes and booked ahead through Mindbody. A suite fits two or three people, but each person is charged, and group bookings go through the front desk by phone because the online system books one person per sauna. A single session is $39, packs of four and eight bring the price down and can be shared between two people, and month-to-month memberships run $99 for four visits, $169 for eight or $209 unlimited, usable at both Purify studios. New clients can buy one session and get a second free. Wear as little as you are comfortable in, skip lotion, perfume and makeup, bring a water bottle, and cancel at least four hours ahead. There is no cold plunge at this location: Purify's plunge tank and contrast sessions are only at its Short Pump studio, so Patterson is the pick for a quiet, heat-only reset close to the Fan and the West End.
