Pyre Sauna + Cold Plunge

Pyre is a South Richmond bathhouse in Westover Hills, set up outdoors at 1000 Westover Hills Blvd and built around a simple loop: traditional Finnish saunas run 170-195°F and cold plunge pools held between 39 and 50°F. Founders Julien Robert and Wes McLaughlin got hooked on sauna in Charlottesville, then studied bathhouse culture across Europe before bringing it home. The pitch is less spa and more third place, a tech-free spot to sweat, shiver and actually talk to the people next to you. Most visits are Open Hours: book a one-hour slot and move between heat, cold and rest at your own pace. Guided Sessions led by certified sauna masters layer in breathwork, movement and conversation prompts, and special events bring yoga, sound baths and drumming. One credit is a $25 hourly drop-in, packs and monthly credit subscriptions bring the price down, a two-week unlimited intro runs $50, and the Founding Unlimited membership is $199 a month (locked for life, with four guest passes) through December 31. Booking ahead is recommended, though walk-ins are taken when there is room. Bring a swimsuit and water bottle; towels are provided. The house routine is 10-20 minutes of heat, 1-3 minutes of cold, two to four rounds. Last entry is an hour before close, and the site is open rain or shine, closing only for lightning or extreme weather. The whole place can be booked for private groups of up to 30 for birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties and company outings. Pyre also rents out trailer units, each a six-person sauna with a cold plunge, delivered for 24 hours or more. River City Sauna Co., the communal sauna that opened behind a Bellevue wine shop in early 2025, has since joined forces with Pyre.
