Sauna House Durham

326 W Geer St, Durham, NC

Sauna House Durham fills a 6,900-square-foot 1949 building on West Geer Street, inside the Foster & West Geer Streets Historic District a few blocks from Durham Central Park. The founders call it their "Version 2": the building was stripped to its bones under a bow-truss ceiling and rebuilt as a bright, social bathhouse with two high-heat traditional saunas, two large stainless-steel cold plunge pools kept at 45-55°F, heated benches, a tea bar and a salt room. The ritual here is Hot Cold Relax, booked as a two-hour visit: up to 15 minutes in the sauna, a cold rinse, up to three minutes in the plunge, then 10-15 minutes on the heated benches before the next round. A two-hour drop-in runs about $50, and pass-style memberships roll over for a year and take $10 off any guest you bring. Swimsuits are required and you must shower with soap before going in; towels, genderless private showers and changing rooms, lockers and bath products are supplied. The bathhouse is phone-free, cashless and open to 18+, or 14+ with a legal guardian. Note the short Wednesday (5 to 10 p.m.). For more privacy, a vaulted private room for up to six has its own aspen sauna, plunge and shower, and massages can be paired with a Thermal Cycle. Parking is tight: use the small on-site lot or the paid lots across Geer Street.
