The Kura Door
1136 E 3rd Ave, Salt Lake City, UT
The Kura Door is a Japanese-style day spa in a house on 3rd Avenue in Salt Lake City's Avenues neighborhood. Guests change into a cotton kimono and slippers, get a cup of green tea, and can spend time in the dry sauna, the steam room and a quiet tea lounge scented with hinoki cypress. The signature thermal offering is the Ofuro Experience: a 45-minute soak in a deep Japanese tub in one of two private rooms, with the water infused with essential oils, herbs or sea salt and a bath attendant guiding the ritual. This is a treatment-first spa rather than a bathhouse. The sauna and steam room come with a booked service, and guests are encouraged to arrive early and stay after. The ofuro bath can be booked by itself at $65 per person ($85 with CBD), or paired with a massage, which runs from $130 for 60 minutes. Everything is by appointment, open daily from 9 am to 9:30 pm, and it books up, so reserve ahead. Swimsuits are welcome in the ofuro if you prefer. The spa builds its menu around Eastern holistic ideas and uses organic, cruelty-free products. It is a good pick for couples or anyone who wants a quiet, private soak and a massage in one visit rather than a social sauna session.
