The Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis
100 Carondelet Plaza, Clayton, MO
The Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis is a small, quiet hotel spa in downtown Clayton, rebuilt in 2016 when the hotel filled in its old indoor swimming pool and put a steam room and sauna in its place. Each of the separate men's and women's changing rooms now holds its own dry sauna, steam room and showers, next to a men's or women's lounge and three treatment rooms, one of them set up for couples. It is a heat-only setup: there is no cold plunge or pool. Think of it as a treatment spa with a sauna attached. Book a massage, facial or body treatment online or by phone (at least a couple of hours ahead) and use the steam and sauna before or after your appointment; the spa does not sell facility-only access, and guests must be 18 or older. The menu leans on ESPA products and Missouri touches, including a Red Rock Granite stone massage and a Black Walnut massage worked with walnut-wood tools, and prices are in luxury-hotel territory. Robes and slippers, infused water, tea, fruit and energy bars are provided. The spa runs 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, and the hotel's fitness center next door is open around the clock. Groups of five or more can book a massage day that includes a private hotel room to relax and order food in afterwards, a handy option for a bridal party or birthday.
