Aji Spa (Sheraton Grand Wild Horse Pass)

5594 W Wild Horse Pass Blvd, Chandler, AZ

Aji Spa is the 17,500-square-foot spa at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass, the resort on Gila River Indian Community land south of Chandler, and it bills itself as the only Native American-owned spa to hold a Forbes Five-Star rating. The 17 treatment rooms, artwork and product line draw on Pima and Maricopa traditions (a community member, Belen Stoneman, creates the Indigenous Collection from plants she grows and leads spiritual healing treatments), and a historic Olas Ki winter dwelling serves as a meditation room. Behind the treatment rooms are the thermal facilities: a dry sauna and steam room in each locker area, indoor whirlpools, outdoor whirlpools and a private spa swimming pool with relaxation lounges and a fitness center looking over it. There is no standalone spa day pass. Access for anyone, hotel guest or not, is by booking a treatment: on the day of your service you get complimentary use of the lounges, the private pool, the saunas and steam rooms and the indoor and outdoor whirlpools, with the spa open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The resort's ResortPass day pass (from $30) covers the main pool and waterslide only and does not include Aji. Book through ajispa.com or the reservations line at 602-385-5759, and plan to arrive an hour or two before your appointment to use the heat. The resort itself sits beside the Whirlwind golf courses and the Koli Equestrian Center, about 20 minutes from Sky Harbor, so the spa works as a half-day retreat from either Phoenix or the East Valley.
