Carson Hot Springs

1500 Old Hot Springs Rd, Carson City, NV

Carson Hot Springs is a no-frills, family-friendly soaking resort on the northeast edge of Carson City, half an hour south of Reno. Spring water comes up at 121°F and runs straight through four outdoor pools and a patio, kept at roughly 98-104°F year-round, and nine private indoor pools at 100-104°F. Nothing is added: no chlorine and no city water, and the pools are drained and refilled daily. The water carries sodium, sulfate, chloride and silica with a little lithium, and saunas are included with every admission. There are no reservations, private rooms included, so you just show up, sign the waiver and soak for two hours. Outdoor pool and patio admission is $18 for adults ($16 for seniors and kids 2-11, $8.50 for infants). The private indoor pool rate is $32 for adults and also covers the outdoor pools and sauna. Private rooms are first come, first served and comfortably hold groups of four or five. Regulars can buy 10-visit swim cards ($150 for adults) or 100-visit cards. It is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of the year. Bring your own towel or rent one, buy a padlock at the desk if you need one, and leave coolers and alcohol in the car. Children have to be directly supervised, and pools can close briefly during the day for cleaning. The springs were used by the Washoe and by emigrants as early as 1849. Thomas Swift built bathhouses, a clubhouse and a hotel around 1880, and heavyweight Gentleman Jim Corbett trained and fought here in 1897. The resort has been remodeled and expanded several times since, most recently with new pools and water features from 2021. You can finish a soak with dinner at Sassafras or a pint from Shoe Tree Brewing, which brews right on the property.
