Cloud-9 Float & Wellness

162 South St, Boston, MA

Cloud-9 Float & Wellness is a family-run float and recovery center on South Street in Jamaica Plain, opened in February 2018 by Alexander Sa Ponte and his mother Angie after a two-year zoning fight to turn a former convenience store into a wellness space. Floating is the core of the business, in Epsom-salt sensory-deprivation pods, but it has grown into a menu of quiet solo therapies: Clearlight infrared sauna cabins, an ozone steam sauna cabinet, PEMF mats, hydrogen inhalation and more esoteric offerings like the RASHA system. Everything is booked privately, so you have the room to yourself. The infrared sauna is the thermaculture draw, and it is heat only: there is no cold plunge, and the ozone steam is a single-person cabinet rather than a steam room. A 30-minute infrared session is $49 and 60 minutes is $59, with first-timer rates of $29 and $39, a three-pack of 30-minute sessions for $135, and monthly sauna memberships that bring the per-session price down to $39 (a second person in the cabin is $20). The classic move is the float-and-sauna combo, warming up in the infrared before 60 or 90 minutes in a pod ($89 and $99, $59 and $69 for first floats). Cloud-9 is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, which makes it one of the few places in the city where you can book heat late on a weeknight; book online through its Floathelm store.
