Life Time Tempe
1616 W Ruby Dr, Tempe, AZ
Life Time Tempe on Ruby Drive, just off the I-10 and Elliot Road, was the company's first Arizona club when it opened in 2003 and has since been rebuilt into the suburban athletic-country-club format: indoor and outdoor pools, indoor and outdoor pickleball, tennis, basketball, a Pilates reformer studio and a Kids Academy. The recovery corner is where it earns a listing here: a large cedarwood dry sauna, a eucalyptus steam room in the common area, extra steam rooms inside each locker room, an indoor whirlpool and a pool-deck whirlpool, and two indoor cold plunge pools so you can rotate heat, cold and hot without queueing. Non-members can buy a $50 day pass online, which Life Time says covers all classes, the pools, 'sauna, steam room and locker room' and the courts for that one location, and the fee is credited toward your first month if you join. Adult memberships start at $179 a month, month-to-month with 30 days' notice to cancel; members also get guest passes that let a friend in once every 60 days when the member is present. Towels, toiletries and keyless day lockers are included, so swimwear is all you need to bring. Doors open at 4 a.m. Monday to Friday and run to midnight, with 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekends; a LifeSpa, LifeCafe and work lounge mean a sauna-and-plunge round can bookend a workday. The club has posted maintenance notices for the women's steam room in the past, so check the app's club alerts before a steam-focused visit.
