Mountainside Fitness Desert Ridge is the Arizona-born chain's north Phoenix club on Irma Lane, a block off Tatum Boulevard near Desert Ridge Marketplace. It is a value gym rather than a spa: 10,000 pounds of free weights, more than 80 group classes a week, a basketball/pickleball court, an MCafé smoothie bar and a recovery room with massage chairs. The locker rooms carry the thermal side of the club, a dry sauna and a steam room that members use for a post-lift cooldown; there are no pools or whirlpools here. Mountainside sells month-to-month memberships from about $48.85 a month with no enrollment fee, and the chain-wide way in for a non-member is its free 5-day pass, requested online (one third-party listing says the pass is meant to be used with a member, so confirm at the desk). Steam rooms are included in the base membership; cold plunge and red-light therapy are a Wellness add-on from $20 a month at 'select' clubs, and whether Desert Ridge has a plunge installed is not confirmed on any page that could be reached, so ask before counting on it. Hours are 4:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, with free towel service and full-service locker rooms. Best suited to someone who wants a cheap, reliable steam-and-sauna routine attached to a full gym rather than a destination bathhouse.
