Russian & Turkish Baths

5445 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL

The Miami Beach outpost of New York's century-old Russian & Turkish Baths sits in the lower lobby of the Castle Beach Club on Collins Avenue at 54th Street, a few steps off the sand. It is a proper bathhouse labyrinth: the Russian Room, a radiant schvitz built around a rock-walled furnace packed with roughly 15 tons of stone, leads to a Turkish hammam, an aromatherapy steam room, a Finnish sauna, an infrared sauna and an amethyst sauna. For the cold there are plunges the baths list at 34°F and a cold chamber, and when you need a break there is an ocean-water jacuzzi with a waterfall, an Olympic-size pool and the beach itself. Entry is walk-in only and adults only (18+), with no time limit once you are inside. A single admission card costs $65, and cards bought in packs of 5 to 30 bring the per-visit price down to about $32 and never expire. The house is open every day from noon to 10 p.m., with men-only hours from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursdays and Sundays before it turns co-ed. Bring a swimsuit and your own water bottle (reviewers note there are no fountains), and plan on valet at the building. Book a platza, the oak-leaf venik treatment, or a salt or mud scrub at the desk, and tip in cash. After three decades in business the baths closed for repairs for several years, and Miami New Times later reported the reopening. Recent reviewers call it beautifully updated, and the café is still the place to finish: borscht, dumplings, herring plates, fresh juice and a cold Russian beer in your robe.
