Spa Toscana is the Peppermill's three-story, 33,000-square-foot Tuscan-styled spa a couple of miles south of downtown Reno, and it has the most complete hot-and-cold circuit of the casino spas. The men's and women's Ritual rooms each have a cedar dry sauna, a eucalyptus steam room, cascading deluge showers and side-by-side hot and cold plunge pools. Upstairs the co-ed Caldarium, which the spa says is the only one in northern Nevada, is a naturally lit indoor pool with waterfalls, soaking baths and a sun deck. There is also a Himalayan salt-wall retreat for quieter downtime. You can get in two ways. Book any treatment and the facilities are yours for the day, or buy the $85 spa day pass, which is sold Tuesday through Thursday only and covers the lounges, steam rooms, saunas and soaking tubs, subject to space. The thermal areas and treatments are strictly 18+ with a government photo ID (8- to 17-year-olds can only use the salon, through a separate entrance). Bring a swimsuit for the pools; robes, sandals and lockers are provided. Arrive an hour before a treatment to use the circuit, expect a 20% service charge on treatments, and cancel at least six hours ahead to avoid a 50% fee. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The little extras are what make it feel like a resort spa: complimentary drinks and snacks on every floor, a Spa Cuisine menu by the Caldarium pool, the one place in the spa where you can order a glass of wine, and treatment rooms with SoSound acoustic-resonance beds and color-and-light experience showers.
