Steve's Bathhouse

Steve's Bathhouse is a private men's club and gay bathhouse on West 2nd Street, just west of downtown Reno, and it has been at the same address since 1962, long enough that it bills itself as the oldest bathhouse in the country. It is a bathhouse in the social, adult sense rather than a wellness spa: the heat is a dry sauna and a steam room, with showers, lockers, private rooms, a TV lounge and an outdoor patio when the weather allows, plus a vending area and free coffee. Entry is for adults only. You must be 18 or older with valid ID, and the club is strict about checking it; it is membership-based, so first-timers buy a $5 daily membership (or $30 for the year) and then rent a 6-hour locker for $14 or a private room from $19. Wednesdays are the cheap day (lockers $5 from 8 a.m. to midnight) and Thursdays and Fridays take $5 off. There are no reservations; you walk in. The club runs nonstop from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Monday and is closed Monday morning through Tuesday. House rules ban drugs and alcohol and anyone under the influence, discourage street clothes once inside, and allow no refunds. Most of the week the club is for men. From noon Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday it runs a co-ed period with discounted rates for women, and it also hosts free, confidential health-testing dates run by the Washoe County Health Department.
