The Intown Retreat

The Intown Retreat is a day spa and yoga studio on Church Street in downtown Decatur, and it bills itself as the town's only all-in-one spot for yoga, massage, sauna, cold plunge and lounging. The spa corner has a large commercial-grade cedar sauna that holds 14-16 people, running classic dry heat with optional essential oils. A professional single-person cold plunge sits a few feet away, with hot showers, private changing rooms and lockers in the same space. Spa passes are booked through Mindbody as 30- or 60-minute slots in the shared co-ed sauna and plunge room. Drop-ins are $20 for 30 minutes and $35 for an hour, and five- and ten-visit packs bring the cost down to about $32. Unlimited is $199 a month, and a $99 intro month gives first-timers 30 days of unlimited visits plus a buddy pass and a yoga class. Towels are included, but bring a bathing suit. You can also rent the whole sauna room for about a dozen friends for $160. It is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, and parking is always free. The real differentiator is the Lounge. Every booking comes with open-ended time in a cozy library-like room with complimentary tea and sparkling water on tap, so a 30-minute sweat easily becomes an afternoon. Owners Cate and Paul are Candler Park parents. Cate is a yoga teacher, and Paul, a chemical engineer who works in water treatment, keeps the plunge water clean. They built it as a neighbourhood community space and pair the sauna with yoga, massage and facials in spa-day packages from $145.
