The Spa at Sweetgrass is the 10,000-square-foot spa inside the Sweetgrass Inn at Wild Dunes Resort on Isle of Palms, about twenty minutes from downtown Charleston. The heat and cold are split between indoors and out. Two infrared saunas sit in The Sanctuary, a quiet relaxation room with zero-gravity chairs. Outside, the 3,000-square-foot Spa Garden has a heated plunge pool next to a cold plunge, plus hanging chairs, a rainfall shower, a free self-guided Himalayan salt scrub and private cabanas. You do not need to stay at the resort. Anyone who books a treatment, or buys a day pass, gets the Spa Living Room, the Spa Garden, The Sanctuary and the locker rooms, and locals are welcome. The infrared saunas cost extra. Add the Sauna Package to a treatment, or buy a Sauna Spa Day Pass, through the spa concierge. Prices are not published, so call 855-704-4521 to get one and to reserve. Arrive 20 minutes before a treatment. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead to avoid a 50% fee. Phones stay out of the locker rooms and relaxation spaces. Valet is free with an appointment or day pass. The spa is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and until 4 p.m. on Sunday. The spa takes its cues from the barrier island around it, with ocean-inspired treatments in 14 rooms. Wellness teas, infused water and small bites are free in the pantry, and wine is sold by the glass. The resort also runs yoga, sound baths and Reiki circles, and a resort package includes an infrared sauna day pass, which makes the Spa Garden easy to fold into a beach weekend.
