The Spa at The Ballantyne is the 10,500-square-foot spa and salon inside The Ballantyne, a Luxury Collection hotel set on a golf course in south Charlotte. Its heat is classic hotel-spa: separate men's and women's lounges each with a cherry wood Finnish sauna, a eucalyptus steam room, showers and lockers, plus a year-round indoor heated pool with whirlpools and a seasonal outdoor pool overlooking the park. Eighteen treatment rooms, including two wet rooms and two couples suites, handle massage, facials, body treatments, hair and nails. The rule to know: there is no way to buy your way in for the sauna alone. Day passes are not sold, and the relaxation lounges, indoor pool and locker rooms come with a spa treatment valued at $139 or more (the outdoor pool too, April through October, except Saturdays and holiday weekends). Arrive 30 minutes early to use the sauna and steam before your appointment, and expect a 20% service charge on top of the treatment price. The spa is 18 and over (12 and up for salon services only), robes and sandals are provided, phones are not allowed inside, and locker room time is capped at four hours on Fridays and Saturdays. It suits a celebration or a slow half-day more than a quick sweat: book a massage, come early for the steam room, then linger in the lounge with tea. Signature treatments draw on a Carolina Lavender collection, and the hotel runs wellness weekends that pair a room, a treatment, workshops and dinner.
