Timbre Thermal Retreat
1 Gibson Way, Revere, MA
Timbre Thermal Retreat is a seasonal, guided outdoor sauna experience that founder Peter Russell runs 'in residence' in the courtyard of Gibson Point, a waterfront apartment community at Point of Pines in Revere about five miles north of downtown Boston. The set-up is a Finnish sauna heated to about 195°F, a heated thermal pool and a row of individual Nordic cold plunge tubs, with ocean views and a living roof overhead. Sessions are facilitated: 75 minutes of free-flow movement between heat, pool and cold, punctuated by multi-sensory Aufguss rituals (essential-oil steam, music, towel work) and guided breathwork, with towels, slides, Kettl tea and water included and skincare from Grown Alchemist and Ursa Major on hand. This is not a year-round facility. Timbre's first Greater Boston run was a summer 2025 residency of weekly workshops at $65 a person (discounted for residents) that wrapped at the end of July 2025; a short 'Fall Sweat Sessions' series followed that October, and a spring 2026 series of Sunday-morning Sweat Sessions ran at 10:00 and 11:30 from May 17 through June 28, 2026 at $50 a session, advance reservation required. As of early November 2026 the workshops page lists no dates and says 'stay tuned for upcoming dates', so treat it as between seasons and check timbreretreat.com or the newsletter (which offers $10 off a session) before planning a visit. Sessions are open to the public as well as residents; bring a swimsuit. Russell is a vocal part of the Boston sauna-as-social-ritual movement covered by the Globe in 2026, and Timbre's pitch is closer to a Nordic bathhouse evening than a recovery studio: small groups, a guide, a view of the water, and a cup of tea at the end.
